First and foremost, MY NEW BIKE HAS ARRIVED! Whew, that was stressful. I did indeed survive 19 hours on my trainer last week (including a 5 hour/6 hour double last Friday and Saturday) but it was painful. Now that it's over I can say I'm kind of glad I was forced to endure the extreme boredom and mental fatigue of riding my bike for that many hours in my living room. Mental fatigue point has definitely been adjusted!

He shall be call "Whitey" for obvious reasons. He rides like a dream. |
On Wednesday, Oscar picked up our first CSA load!
|
It should be noted that by the time I got home from work, the cookie and cream soda were no longer available. (hint, Oscar looked suspiciously content...) |
I have to admit, I didn't know what the curly things on top were. Twitter informed me that they are garlic scapes. They ended up in our pasta sauce tonight. I am so excited about this CSA concept. It's like a little Christmas every other Wednesday!

My beets are roasting, my beets are roasting!!! :) |
In other news, I did my last 5+ hour ride today before CdA! (it should be noted that I have an 8 hour s/b/r brick tomorrow but the ride is only 4.5 hours. :). The ride today was very hard for me. It had lots of intervals and my HR did not want to cooperate. Sometimes I think Dirk broke my heart rate because I have to run or ride REALLY hard/fast for it to go high. This problem does not exist on race day though. :)

Looking a bit haggard after that ride. All I could think about for the last hour home was the watermelon in the fridge. I may have eaten 5 (or 10) pieces. |
Also, I've been a reading fool. This is a bit odd for me because I mostly just sleep, eat, train and occasionally go to work. If you don't get on FB and twitter as often though, there is oddly more time in your day to read. :) I read Chrissie's autobiography (really liked it) and now I'm reading
Unbroken. It's an amazing story. Highly recommended! Today Mr. Mailman brought this one for me:
|
I know everyone has already read this one but what can I say, I'm behind the times. |
And with that, I think I will go lay in my bed until it's dark enough to sleep. :) Best of luck to everyone racing this weekend - most of all to all those at Eagleman! I'm very sad to be missing EM this year as it's one of my favorites. I'm not sure why because it's always 10,000 degrees with 10 million % humidity. But I do enjoy the eagles in the Blackwater Preserve. Oh, and the sno-cones at the run turnaround. :) Have a great weekend all!
Isnt it so much fun to get veggies that you have never seen before?! I cant wait for my deliver tmrw. That O is super sly to be eating that cookie! You deserved it after all your hard training :)
ReplyDeleteWe have matching bikes!!! That saddle was a nightmare for me though... Not for one ride but the 2nd long ride in a row was the issue... I switched that out in a panic while I was in Tucson at Hillary's Smashfest. ;)
ReplyDeleteI'm impressed with your inside riding. I read Chrissie's book too and I must say that sounds like something Brett Sutton would have made his athletes do too! CdA should be easy after that!
great bike (and kit, looks like mine..) all down hill to CdA!!
ReplyDeleteAnother book that is amazing and similar to that one is Talent is Overrated.
Whitey! Love it. #1 on the most wanted list. It's certainly on my list. I hope it fits you perfectly.
ReplyDeleteI just got Garlic Scapes this week from our CSA!! Awesome food!!
ReplyDeleteSee you in a few weeks in CDA!!! Yeah!!
ReplyDeleteOoooh, love the new bike! I liked Unbroken too. . It sounds like we really just needed to trade Kindle libraries :)
ReplyDeleteI cringe at those hours on the trainer, but we have to do what we have to do! you will be stronger b/c of it, for sure!! I can't believe CDA is coming up!!! WOW! And, I am missing EM too this year and a little sad. I must go back next year - you too!!
ReplyDeleteAND, Congrats on your new bike! That is always fun!!!
Oh I am so jealous since al i can do is swim, but i am really thankful for my strong large ( haha, JH is laffing) shoulders. I am reading CW's book and have read Unbroken and could not put it down.
ReplyDeleteBest of luck with the last big brick. you are solid and so ready for CDa!
I think your bike is sexy (hope that's not wildly inappropriate). and watermelon, yes! I can eat almost an entire half in one sitting.
ReplyDeletewow. holy volume batman- you are killing it. race day is just on the horizon! 19 hours on the trainer. YOU are a beast! so true about the mental fatigue point. love the new ride! looks great! last brick! keep your chin up!
ReplyDeleteunreal Beth. 19hrs of riding is hard enough, but on your trainer!? wow. So glad you have a new bike!!! ( I just got a new while p3 also! )
ReplyDeleteCan't wait for CdA!
Hooray for the new bike - Whitey looks fast!! Major props for the 6/5 hour trainer rides - I don't think I could manage that!
ReplyDeleteWow... 19 hours on the trainer... you will be ready for whatever race day throws at you! Have a great race next weekend- I'm excited for you!!
ReplyDeleteUnbroken is one of the best books I've ever read! And that is ALOT of time on the trainer.
